Kids get bored of one format fast, especially around 9 or 10, when writing starts to feel like just another assignment if you&#8217;re not careful.<\/p><p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal\" dir=\"ltr\" data-sourcepos=\"47:1-47:205;4039-4243\">If they get stuck mid-story, don&#8217;t jump in and finish the sentence for them (I know, it&#8217;s tempting). Every writer I&#8217;ve ever met, kid or adult, was a reader first. It&#8217;s a loop, and once it starts spinning it kind of takes care of itself.<\/p><h3 class=\"text-text-100 mt-3 -mb-1 text-[1.125rem] font-bold\" dir=\"ltr\" data-sourcepos=\"62:1-62:49;5125-5173\">4. Don&#8217;t Correct While They&#8217;re Still Creating<\/h3><p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal\" dir=\"ltr\" data-sourcepos=\"64:1-64:265;5175-5439\">This is probably the single biggest thing that kills a kid&#8217;s writing confidence: correcting spelling and grammar <em>while<\/em> they&#8217;re still in the middle of an idea. It stops the flow cold, and worse, it teaches them that writing is a place where they get things wrong.<\/p><p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal\" dir=\"ltr\" data-sourcepos=\"66:1-66:265;5441-5705\">Let the first draft be a mess. Genuinely praise the ideas even the weird ones, especially the weird ones before you touch a single comma. Save the grammar conversation for later, and frame it as let&#8217;s make this shine even more, not let&#8217;s fix your mistakes.<\/p><p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal\" dir=\"ltr\" data-sourcepos=\"68:1-68:244;5707-5950\">One trick that works better than most editing techniques: have them read their story out loud to you before you touch it. Kids catch their own weird phrasing almost every time when they hear it in their own voice.
